The Winter Archive, part 3

For among these winters there is one so endlessly winter that only by wintering through it will your heart survive. (Rainer Maria Rilke)

Lovers month. Bouquets of roses and glacial mornings. Timid sunshine and chocolate. This is February to me!

The final chapter of The Winter Archives is here and I can’t lie… I’m already dreaming of spring. But, since we still have a long time to go, here are my top recommendations for what to read, watch, and listen to as we witness the death of the coldest season.

— Ella.

listening — february podcasts and music

For the Listening section of the Archive, I’ve curated a selection of romantic media to celebrate all the Valentines.

  • Tiny Love Stories for Valentine’s day

  • A Sunday kind of Love

This is one of my oldest playlists, but I think I did a great job creating a collection of beautiful, timeless love songs.

visualizing — february moodboard

I always recommend making your own collages to help you remember where you were at the time and to spark your creativity, especially during the darker months when it is so easy to lose yourself. Also they’re so fun and therapeutic to make! I made this one a few days ago and it really reflect the way I see the night time during this month.

Dreamy, stormy, sleepy.

reading — february articles and books

  • How to Live a Seasonal February

  • Vita Nostra written by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko

Sasha Samokhina has been accepted to the Institute of Special Technologies. Or, more precisely, she’s been chosen. Situated in a tiny village, she finds the students are bizarre, and the curriculum even more so. The books are impossible to read, the lessons obscure to the point of maddening, and the work refuses memorization. Using terror and coercion to keep the students in line, the school does not punish them for their transgressions and failures; instead, it is their families that pay a terrible price. Yet despite her fear, Sasha undergoes changes that defy the dictates of matter and time; experiences which are nothing she has ever dreamed of . . . and suddenly all she could ever want.
